Transportation in Khon Kaen

Khon Kaen's transport web is smaller than Bangkok's but well serviceable. Songthaews (shared pick-ups with bench seats) are the everyday workhorse, cheap, everywhere, and the only thing that runs after dark. Tuk-tuks fill the gaps for door-to-door hops but cost several times more. Agree the fare before you climb in. Motorbike taxis cluster at markets and the university gate for solo riders in a hurry. Ride-hailing apps work here too, though coverage thins on the city fringe. From Khon Kaen Airport, the prepaid taxi counter inside the terminal is the honest option, skip the touts outside who quote fantasy prices. The ride to downtown takes 15-20 minutes and costs a fraction of what you'd pay in Bangkok. There's no rail link, and the public songthaews don't serve the terminal, so don't waste time hunting for cheaper wheels.
